while on the mountain, I really had no idea what the signs were saying, but assumed correctly the number and symbol were some sort of time or distance units, and bigger numbers meant a longer distance. But distance to *what*, I had no idea. I took pictures so I could begin some pattern matching across the signs, and try to develop an interpretation for what I was seeing. In one hour though, I was not able to crack the mysterious code... ;-)
