this little shelter thing was about halfway up the mountain, I surmised, given that it seemed to indicate the same number going up as going down the mountain. Koko told me that the first two characters on the top left are the name of the mountain. I already knew that the next character (with 3 vertical lines) is "yama" and means "mountain." 30 means 30 and the next character means minutes. As in it's 30 more minutes to the top of the mountain. The four big chars in the middle are the name of the shelter, and the rest is the name of and time to (30 minutes) the bottom of the mountain.
